Elemental iodine (I₂) at 99.99% purity, supplied as solid crystals: irregular blue-black flakes and shards with a metallic lustre. Packed in sealed containers and shipped from Brooklyn, New York.
This listing is for laboratory and industrial use only. It is not a dietary supplement and is not intended for human consumption. For supplement-grade iodine, see our Lugol's Iodine Solution and Nascent Iodine ranges.
Iodine is a reactive halogen and sublimes at room temperature — it passes straight from solid to vapour, and that vapour is corrosive and irritating. Handle in a well-ventilated area or a fume hood, wearing nitrile gloves and eye protection. It stains skin, fabric and most surfaces on contact. Store sealed, cool, dark and dry, away from heat, metals, ammonia and reducing agents. Read the Safety Data Sheet in full before opening.
Iodine at concentrations above 2.2% is a List I chemical under 21 CFR Part 1310. All sales are recorded, there is no minimum-quantity exemption, and orders may be limited or declined at our discretion. Purchasers are responsible for compliance with federal, state and local law.
Crystals. This is crystalline elemental iodine in its natural flake and shard form, not prilled spheres. If your procedure calls for "iodine crystals," "resublimed iodine" or "elemental iodine," this is what you want.
99.99%. A Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet are available on request — contact us with your order number, or before ordering if your application needs the specifications up front.
It is the same element, but not the same product. Our Lugol's Solution and Nascent Iodine products are supplement-grade liquids, formulated and labelled for that purpose. This listing is unformulated elemental iodine for laboratory and industrial use only.
Sizes run from 7.5 g to 1 kg. Because iodine above 2.2% is federally regulated, we record all sales and may limit or decline orders.
Keep it in the sealed container it ships in. Iodine sublimes at room temperature, so a loosely closed container will lose material and stain everything near it. Cool, dark and dry — and never in a metal container.
